Javaphul fragrant rice (Raw)

Description
  • Tribal rice from Chhattisgarh

  • 100% organic and natural

  • Easy to digest

Javaphul is an aromatic, slender, small-grained rice from the Dantewada district in Chhattisgarh. This traditional variety of rice is grown by tribal farmers on clear patches in the forest. When cooked, the rice is soft and has a mild fragrance. It can be consumed daily as table rice or used to make biryanis, pulavs, variety rices, kheer, and any rice recipe. Anyone who has tasted Javaphul Rice, loves it!

The Story

Chattisgarh is considered to be the rice bowl of India where maximum rice varieties are grown. Back in the 1960s, eminent rice scientist, Dr. Richharia identified over 20000 varieties of rice in Chhattisgarh. The variety of rice found here may not be found anywhere in India. Bio Basics sources Javaphul Rice from an organic farmers’ collective which has been working with tribals to help them market their produce.

Bio Basics runs a campaign called ‘Beyond Basmati’ to create awareness of the biodiversity of traditional scented rice varieties grown in different parts of India. We believe it is our responsibility to help preserve and promote these fragrant kinds of rice which may otherwise not survive future generations. We call our initiative ‘a gift to the future.'
