Nandri Awards

Introduction
Bio Basics Nandri Awards are a gift of gratitude (hence the name “Nandri” which means “thanks” in Tamil) towards organic farmers and organic farming champions for their contribution in this space.
The Awards are presented by Anantha Charitable Trust, a Trust formed in 2014 to promote sustainability, both social and environmental, from farm to family – one farm at a time, one family at a time.
The Trust is supported by Bio Basics, a social enterprise founded in 2015, curating heritage grains and retailing organic food to families across India.
The Organic Farming movement in India is three decades old. This movement could not have been sustained without farmers and organic farming champions taking up and promoting organic farming, despite all odds.
The Nandri Awards, therefore, are meant to:
Express our gratitude to these farmers for keeping alive organic farming
Recognize their contributions
Thank them for their commitment to sustainable farming, and,
Tell their stories to families across India.
The Awards are being given under six categories:
1) Veteran organic farmer – Lifetime work recognition award
2) Organic farming Champion – A person who has been working for the cause of organic farming and farmers at the policy level and on the ground
3) Organic Farmer Couple – A family or couple who are involved in organic farming and promoting the cause.
4) Organic Seed conserver – Award for a farmer who has been involved in conservation of heritage seeds
5) Woman Organic farmer – A practicing woman organic farmer, who is a full-time practitioner since many years
6) Young Organic Farmer– A practicing organic farmer below the age of 35 who has been practicing organic farming, and also helping others to adopt it.
