Ram came home today. Or so goes the legend (or history?). After 14 years of trying times. Navigating the challenges of the Bad. The Good came home. Where it belongs.
As we all prep for the Diwali holidays, look around. Sweets and snacks for one and all. Crackers for the boisterous. Lamps for the rest. Fancy wear for the classy. Family time for most of us.
But this is the time, that one time in the year, when we usher in the good and the new and replace the old. Because the Good comes home today.
Here are my five Goods to bring home TODAY. Goods you will thank yourself for having brought home. Goods that bring joy, peace, and love.
1. Habits: Pick any good habit, and bring it home. Yoga, Meditation, Exercise, going to bed early, rising early. Take your pick. However easy or difficult. However small or big. Just bring it home. Easier said than done? Check out the book "The Power of Habit" by Charles Duhigg to know how to get it done.
2. Relationships: Spend your time and energy on relationships you love. Focus on Good relationships. Relationships that make you happy. Ignore the rest.
3. Consciousness: Be sensitive. Bring home sustainability in energy, water, housing, consumption, waste, transportation. Go Green. Everywhere. Everytime.
4. Giving: When your boat is filling up with water, cup both hands and pour out water. It makes sense! Travel light. Giving to those less fortunate. Giving to the Future (consuming to conserve heritage grains, for instance.)
5. Food: Needless to say, bring home chemical-free whole foods. Organic. Bio Basics. Keep those chemicals away. Invest in health.
The last one is easy for me!! The others are WIP (Work in Progress).
And if you are wondering what I am doing this Diwali - I am spending time closeted with the K9s at home, doors/windows closed, playing soft music, keeping out the sound and smoke of crackers. Having friends over, after the smoke has settled down. Otherwise, some quiet time to write, read, ruminate, and plan.
So what Good is coming to your home this Diwali?
Happy Diwali from all of us here at Bio Basics!
