Kokum ( Garcinia Indica) is a tree spice , used commonly as a souring agent . It is commonly found in the western coast of India- Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra. It is widely used in the coastal cooking of these states and also used to prepare the famous sol kadi - a delicious drink
Interesting fact: Bio basics kokum rinds are from sun drying the freshly harvested fruit . This gives a bright pink juice from a very small quantity of rinds. The commercially available kokum rinds are less colourful, flavourful and less nutritious.
Story
Bio Basics kokum comes from a single family of organic farmers , which harvests it from Soppinabetta forests in Sirsi near their organic farm. Soppinabetta forests are leased to forest abutting farmers to harvest minor forest produce from and therefore are preserved and managed by the farmer families.
