The story

Bio Basics sources its Organic Emmer Wheat from a single-origin farm in Satara, Maharashtra, a farmer collective in North Karnataka, and a family farm near Pune. These farms have a long-standing tradition of organic grain farming, and the next generation is continuing this legacy. Each source of Emmer wheat has its own unique cooking characteristics, which are more noticeable in baking than in making rotis. You can buy Organic Emmer Wheat online from Bio Basics.

Health Benefits

  • Emmer wheat is valued for its healthful properties and ancient origins, retaining its original protein structure for thousands of years, making it easily digestible and reducing allergy risks compared to modern wheat varieties.
  • Emmer wheat is often tolerated by those with minor gluten intolerance, though it should be tried under medical or dietary supervision.
  • Emmer wheat is known for its low glycemic index, making it beneficial for blood sugar management, and it is also rich in fibre. You can buy Organic Emmer Wheat online to enjoy these health benefits.

Storage

Store the wheat in a cool dry place and sun dry it before milling it. Add chillies or neem leaves to there wheat container to prevent infestation.

If you are keeping it longer than a month, please sun dry the wheat periodically. Mill it fresh and use it.

How to Cook

  • Measure out the desired amount of emmer wheat and rinse it under cold water. In a pot, combine 1 cup of emmer wheat with 2-3 cups of water or broth. Add a pinch of salt if desired.
  • Place the pot over high heat and bring the mixture to a boil.
  • Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer for about 30-40 minutes, or until the emmer wheat is tender but still chewy.
  • Remove the pot from the heat and let it sit covered for a few minutes. This allows the emmer wheat to absorb any remaining liquid and rest.
  • After resting, uncover the pot and fluff the cooked emmer wheat with a fork.
  • Serve the cooked emmer wheat as a side dish or use it as a base for salads, soups, or grain bowls.
  • Feel free to adjust the amount of water and cooking time based on your preference for the texture of the emmer wheat. You can also add herbs, spices, or other seasonings to customize the flavor. Enjoy your cooked emmer wheat!
