Illuppai Poo Samba – Broken Rice - SVR Organic Way Farm
Iluppaipoo Samba broken rice is a traditional, nutritious, and mildly aromatic South Indian rice variety known for its pearl-white or brown color. It is highly prized for its medicinal properties, often used to aid in boosting immunity, treating joint pain, paralysis, and improving hemoglobin levels. This healthy, gluten-free rice is ideal for preparing porridge (kanji), upma, and soft dishes, especially for the elderly or convalescing patients.
The Story
The rice is mainly grown in the Kaveri delta. According to traditional lure, Illuppai Poo Rice is called women’s rice. As part of prayer rituals every Tuesday, women make some preparation with this rice and have it. It is believed to give them strength.
Biobasics sources Illuppai Poo Samba from two farms, one in Thiruvarur, Tamil Nadu and the one in Palakkad, Kerala. Both farms are PGS-certified and supply us with unpolished as well as semi-polished Illuppai Poo Samba.
