Easy alternative to White Rice

I grew up on White rice. White polished rice.

And it was only once in a way when we visited our grandfather in Kerala that my rice would change from white polished rice, which was delicate and light, to the local Kerala Matta variety, which is called Chambavari (in Malayalam, literally meaning "red rice"), which is fat and heavy. I did not enjoy it much then.

It took me 45 years to start liking it. And of course, now I am a fan of red rice, Kerala Matta Rice.

But there are many of us who are not able to make that transition. It is our comfort food. It is what we go back to in our moments of happiness or moments of sorrow. And that too white polished rice is something very dear to most of us.

And when one suggests a change in that, it is difficult to do.

It can also happen that certain members of our family do not like the transition to Red or Brown rice. And certain other members are happy to change. But the meal has to have just one rice. So it becomes a dilemma for the family and it ends up sticking to white rice.

Problems with White Polished Rice

We know that white polished rice has its disadvantages.

It is fully polished, which means that there is no bran left on the grain, which in turn means that it is pure starch that leads to a higher glycemic index for those grappling with diabetes.

And it is not so great for those who are heading towards diabetes.

It is light, but it's not very filling, so one feels hungry soon after having a full meal of white polished rice.

Solution?

So the compromise is to go for Thuyamalli Parboiled rice, which looks a bit off-white, which tastes like white rice, but is much more nutritious than white polished rice.

It may not be as great for health as the Red rice or the Brown rice, but Thuyamalli Rice Parboiled is an excellent via media for those wanting to transition out of white rice.

It is parboiled, and that means that the vitamins and minerals on the bran has been captured in the grain, and therefore it is more nutritious.

It is white in color, so the appeal of the rice is as good as white polished rice.

And it is not heavy. So you get the same feel as White polished rice.

So, we recommend Thuyamalli Parboiled rice for all those who want to transition out of White Polished rice.

Try it and let us know what you feel.

Enjoy!
